Field School

For Students

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be sponsoring its 3rd annual Field School in Senegal, West Africa. This Field School is scheduled for June 1 through June 26, 2004, the first summer session. Six units of credits are available for undergraduates and graduate students. The field school is interdisciplinary in scope, and each student develops an independent project as part of the course requirements. This year the Field School program will focus on the following course themes:

Ø      Cultural Memory

Ø      Rural Development

Ø      Dakar as a Global City

Ø      Islam in Senegal

 Inclusive in this Study Abroad program are cultural lessons, immersion experiences, and language instruction (in French and Wolof). Projesct Assistants in the field school are Senegalese students. Students activities include host family visits, and in country travel (visits to Toubab Dialaw, Touba, Yenne, and throughout the city of Dakar).
