General Course Information:

Syllabus:

To keep track of the material we are covering, you can either look at the assigned
homework, or check out this in-progress syllabus.

Homework Assignments:

Weekly homework will be assigned, but not collected. Homework is a very good study guide for the quizzes. HW # n covers the material from the lectures in Week # n.

Quiz Information:

Weekly quizzes will be given on Wednesdays (except exam days), beginning in Week 2. The quiz will be on the material covered in the previous week, which is the same as the homework assigned in the previous week.

Grading: This makes 11 quizzes total. The lowest two scores will be dropped, so 9 quiz scores will count. Each quiz counts 3%, making 27% of your grade from quizzes.

Exam Information:

There will be 3 in-class, hour-long exams. Each exam counts 15% of your grade. The comprehensive 2-hour final counts 28% of your grade.

Exams are not multiple-choice! Show all your work, and partial credit will be given. Also, Graphing calculators will not be allowed on exams, scientific calculators only.

How should you study for the exam? First, re-work ALL of the homework problems assigned. Do not just look over your quizzes, that won't be enough. Second, work more problems similar to the homework problems. Try to think of ways to slightly change each problem could be different, and see if you can solve the new problem. Look at other problems in the sections we covered, and the chapter reviews at the end. Just work lots of problems. It's also best if you can work on this with some friends or classmates, to check your answers together, quiz each other, etc. Also, as you're working, you may find you'll need to skim back over your lecture notes or the section of the book, which is great. But the best is just to practice on lots of problems!

Grades:

Student grades will be posted on Post'Em periodically. To check your grade, go to: Post'Em Students.

Note: If you ever check and the grade on Post'Em doesn't match up with what's written on your quizzes/exams, PLEASE TELL ME!!!
