2001 : Top Ten DIWITTYs

Clearly the highest pleasure I derived from Stat Keeping this year was in tracking the DIWITTYs of my circle of friends and associates. More so than the relentless consumption of eggs, the unchecked indulgence of dining out, or the sudden emergence of Madden 2001 for the PS2, enumerating the Days In Which I Talked To my friends was a daily ritual that I enjoyed. And when a month passed and I had to update the yearly standings ... boy oh boy!

Here are the people that garnered the most DIWITTYs for the Year 2001.

1. Steve Wetzel @ 236. Won January, July and August outright and shared the top honor for February, March, May and June.
2.

Eilis O'Herlihy @ 207. Won May, and shared the top honor with Steve Wetzel for February, March and June.

Had she not gone on a well-documented trip to Brazil in January, when she registered only 7 DIWITTYs, the gap between 1 and 2 would've been much closer. Alas.

3.

Christine Khalafian @ 151.

Such consistent monthly totals for somebody who 1) hasn't won a month, 2) isn't in a band, 3) isn't technically a co-worker (she teaches a different class). She simply lives up the street.

4.

Didier Leplae @ 147.

Had he not gone to Ghana for the month of August (and thus registering no DIWITTYs), he surely would've excused Khalafian from the top three, making it a podium sweep for The Paragraphs.

5.

Xavier Leplae @ 144.

A cornerstore of my world. He makes things happen.

6.

Carl Bogner @ 140. Won April.

Back in June, I told Carl that he was currently holding the third spot in the DIWITTYs. Did I jinx him? More likely it's just that I stopped being one of his teaching assistants.

7.

Micaela O'Herlihy @ 127.

My favorite mother who's not my mother.

8. Doug Smith @ 122.
9.

Sarah Rosa Buccheri @ 111. Won September, October, November and December.

Remarkable to make the Top 10 because she spent half the year in Queens, registering Zero DITTYs in February, April and July.

The oldest of my friends on this list.

Brent Goodsell @ 110.

As The Horn Band goes, so does Brent's DITTYs.

Remarkable to be in the Top Ten since he started off the year in Brooklyn, registering no DITTYs in January.
