In the spring of 2001, the Board
of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System announced
the termination of a tenured faculty
member at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The
Board of Regents overruled the
findings of the local campus's Affirmative Action Committee,
its Faculty Terminations Committee,
and the Board of Regents' own Personnel Matters Review
Committee. TAUWP believes this
is a critical case, and that if the dismissal is upheld, such will
signal the virtual elimination
of tenure and shared governance in the University of Wisconsin
System.
