"I see life as a performance of thoughts and actions as a way of understanding reality. Performances repeated with mindfulness become rituals. The curtain draws open as I begin to create one-person tableaux using scripts and inner-monologues (referencing Jewish mysticism, Yiddish folk traditions, and family stories). Staging events by method acting, to evoke emotion, I image my face using an instant camera. The performance continues as a method of xerography, cutting, piecing together, adhering, scrubbing, and mark-making, climaxing as an astonishing, large, image of a face, materializes upon a wooden panel. The curtain closes." -artist's statement, 1999
