Leslie Kren

Summary

My primary teaching focus is cost and managerial accounting. My objective in the classroom is to provide students with the most current and relevant knowledge in the field of accounting and to provide a supportive classroom environment that is stimulating and conducive to learning. To this end, I have made a significant effort to remain current in my discipline and to study the latest developments in accounting course content and pedagogy. I have also conducted applied research in related fields.

Continuing Education

Teaching cost and managerial accounting requires familiarity with the continuously changing environment in cost management systems. In fact, this has been the focus of much of my continuing education. I have attended numerous professional conference sessions, formal seminars and teaching-skills workshops provided by the American Accounting Association and UWM, and read extensively in practice-oriented publications. I periodically visit local companies, such as W.H. Brady, Allen-Bradley, and Monsanto to study their accounting systems.

SAP training courses:

AC040 - Cost Management and Controlling
AC410 - Cost Center Accounting
AC420 - ABC Activity Based Costing
AC505 - Product Cost Planning
AC510 - Cost Object Controlling for Products
AC610 - Profit Center Accounting

Education Research

I have conducted research related to current practice in cost accounting and the association between a firm's production technology and its accounting information system. These studies have provided immediate benefits in the classroom and also resulted in published research.

I also have an active interest in broader aspects of accounting curriculum content and delivery. As a result, I participated in an extensive study of accounting administrators' about the new AACSB accreditation guidelines for accounting degree programs at AACSB accredited business schools. The resulting article was published in Issues in Accounting Education, a leading academic accounting education journal.

Executive Education Programs

I have conducted numerous continuing education workshops and seminars. For example,

Workshop for the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs (WICPA) to provide "Updates on the Latest Trends in Cost Accounting."

EMBA Seminar sessions, "Managing Strategic Drivers." for EMBA students and for EMBA alumni

Managerial accounting seminars at Allen-Bradley through the UWM Management Research Center.
