Text: There are two texts.
- College Algebra with Trigonometry, Seventh Edition, by R. Barnett, M. Ziegler, and K. Byleen.
- Calculus, Fifth Edition, by James Stewart.
Students are to obtain course information and homework from the class web pages.
Students are expected to check the web page frequently for updates and changes.
Course Grade: There will be four exams and a final comprehensive exam. The lowest of
the four exam grades will be dropped. Each remaining exam is 25% of the course
grade. The final exam is 25% of the course grade. Makeup exam given only if more than
one exam has been misssed with sufficient documentation for each missed exam.
GATEWAY EXAMS: There are four Gateway Exams. These exams are "basic skills tests".
- Gateways exams are first given in class; students provided 30 minutes; no calculators; no partial credit;
each of 10 problems worth 10%; student must achieve 80% to be considered a pass.
- Students who do not achieve 80% on in class Gateway exam can, with instructor permission, retake the
exam at most twice per week for each of the three weeks immediately following the in-class gateway.
Students must obtain a permission slip from their instructor for each retake. Note the last gateway may
not allow for the three week window as it may occur near end of semester.
- Gateway Lab hours will be posted on the door of the gateway center (EMS W 401) and on the web at

- A student who does not pass (80% or higher) on all gateways cannot receive a course grade higher than a C-.
- A student who passes (80% or higher) all gateway exams cannot receive a course grade lower than D-.
- Any changes to the gateway policies can be made only in truly exceptional circumstances.
Documentation and Course Coordinator approval required.
Prerequisites: Math Placement level AB, A, A+
Drop Dates: Last date to change to/from audit is September 19, last day to drop is
October 28, and last day to drop without a "w" grade is October 3.
Students should check all dates in the Fall 2005 Timetable Schedule.

Exam II Date: Wednesday October 26
Exam III Date: Monday November 21
Exam IV Date: Monday December 12
Final Exam Date: WednesdayDecember 21; 3:00-5:00pm; EMS E 208
