Nicolet has been a part of the CoVis project since its birth here in Milwaukee. UWM-CoVis began working with Nicolet in 1997 by helping fund the installation of a high speed internet connection. Because of their technological advances, Nicolet is very active in internet and web-based pursuits. Nicolet has a fully functioning webpage that describes current events and activites at the school for teachers, alumni, students, and parents.

Our primary contact at Nicolet is Earth Science teacher Karyl Rosenberg, pictured here with students Lechelle Yarbrought and Julie Winkleman (seated). She has fostered a great deal of technological learning opportunities for students, including teleconferencing with students at UWM in the Geosciences Department. During these sessions, high school students are given the opportunity to present projects about meteorology to university students and professors, similar to the presentation Lechelle is giving at Nicolet at the photo below.

Ms. Rosenberg is also using the computers CoVis provided to research current weather conditions (like the screen pictured below) all over the world. This kind of real-time data is an invaluable resource for high school students, and has created new possibilities for curriculum enhancement.

Next year, Nicolet and UWM plan to continue on the same path, adding more teleconferencing opportunities and finding new ways to interact both with each other and throughout the world.
