General Information
PREREQUISITES: Physics 219, Math 232 or concurrent registration
COURSE MATERIALS:
  • Optional:
    Atmospheric Science: An Introductory Survey, By Wallace and Hobbs, Academic Press, either 1st ed. (1977) or 2nd ed. (2006)
    A copy of each edition has been placed on 2-hr reserve at the library.
  • Laminated Skew-T/Log-P diagram (Prof. Kahl will provide the diagram, but you must get it laminated at Kinkos or the equivalent. It should cost around $5 or less).
  • A set of erasable transparency markers (4 different colors)

GRADING Midterm exams (2): 15% each
Problem sets: 45% (lowest score excluded; late assignments not accepted)
Final exam (not cumulative): 15%
Subjective (attendance, effort, improvement): 10%
MISCELLANEOUS:
  • Ask questions! Just because you're studying meteorology doesn't mean you have to blunder about in a fog or walk around with your head in the clouds.
  • Get in the habit of checking weather maps daily, You can use the Virtual Weather Map Room at www.uwm.edu/~kahl/106/106_wx.html if you wish. Watching television weather reports is also helpful.
