Bunnygrunt:
Jen-Fi: 15 Popular Favorites
(No Life)

Admit it - at some point in your life, you've eaten an entire box of some sweet, fattening, utterly non-nutritious but delicious junkfood in one sitting. Not exactly haute cuisine - but sometimes overdosing on that sugary sweetness is the only thing that'll do.

Thus, Bunnygrunt: odd yet cute name, jumping little songs seldom longer than two minutes, faux-fifties graphics, band members listed only as "Karen, Matt, and Jen," a casual regard for singing in tune and other fussy musicianly virtues - is their picture next to the entry for "twee" in the pop critics' dictionary?

They go wrong on this disc (which despite its title is not a compilation) only when slowing things down a bit too much - or when you, the listener, might find your teeth aching from irritability. I suppose careful listening might reveal that all in Bunnygrunt's world is not sunshine and puppydogs, but finally, that's approximately like looking for cheery, life-affirming, pep-rally fodder in the oeuvre of Trent Reznor: even if it's there, it's hardly to the point.

Great titles, too - my favorites are "We Suspect He Was Trying to Spell Monkey," "Good Tiger, Bad Tiger," and "I Just Had Broken-Heart Surgery, Love Won't Bypass Me Again."
