Aden:
Black Cow
(Teenbeat)

It's appropriate that this CD's being released on Mark Robinson's Teenbeat label: Aden too features sharply written, fat-free songs with tautly recorded, gimmick-free, clean guitars and punchy, melodic bass. The parts are often written and recorded to mesh almost as if they're one part, one instrument, sounding less like different musical lines than one complex line distributed amongst the three instruments (two guitars and bass). Think of the way Johnny Marr sculpted guitar parts in the early days of the Smiths: although Aden doesn't sound much like that band, the approach to guitars and singer Jeff Gramm's understated, melancholy vocals sometimes produce a similar effect in the listener. A skilled, accomplished recording, Black Cow is a worthy addition to Teenbeat's artist roster.
