Prerequisite:   Placement score of 20 or higher, or grade of C or better in Math 095.

Textbook:       Intermediate Algebra, 7th edition by Bittinger and Ellenbogen

Coverage:       Chapters 2 - 9

Homework:

You are expected to do the required assigned homework on a regular basis. Homework will not be collected or graded. However, quizzes and exams will mainly be based on homework problems. It is expected that, at a minimum, 2 hours outside work will be required for each hour in the classroom (which translates to about 6 hours per week for this 3 credit course). This is minimum. Some students will require more outside homework time. Also note that nothing precludes you from doing more than the required work!

Attendance:

Attending lectures regularly is in your own interest. Attendance will be taken and, together with class participation, may be a factor in determining your final course grade.

Quizzes:

Last class meeting of week of weeks school is in session and there is no Math 105 hour exam scheduled (09/13, 09/20, 09/27, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/08, 11/15, 11/20, 12/06). Up to two quizzes may be missed. There are no makeup quizzes.

Exams:

Attendance at the scheduled examinations and final is required. There is no provision for absences due to vacations, family outings and other social activities, other special plans and appointments, etc. Absences due to illness require a medical excuse on Physician’s letterhead, signed by the physician, which must be submitted before any alternate arrangements for the exam will be considered.

Grading:         Quizzes              80 points (top 8 of 10 @ 10 points each)

                        Exams              300 points (3 @ 100 points each)

                        Final                220 points

                        Total                600 points

The grade you receive in Math 105 will be based on your exam scores, your quiz scores and final examination score. In marginal cases, class participation may determine the choice of your grade.
