Numerical Analysis Seminar

The numerical analysis seminar is an informal series of lectures in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at UWM. The seminar is currently organized by Prof. Dexuan Xie. The topics of the seminars include parallel solutions of scientific applications modeled by differential equations. Some advanced topics in numerical analysis are also discussed, which include multigrid methods for solving partial differential equations, truncated-Newton algorithms for large scale nonlinear optimization problems, and parallel preconditioners. In particular, challenging scientific computing problems that arise from biomolecular simulations will be discussed in the seminars.

In Spring of 2006, the seminar is Section 008 of cource Math 799. It will focus on the study of optimization techniques for large scale unconstrained minimization problems and numerical algorithms for solving large scale nonlinear systems that arise from MRI reconstructions. In addition, Prof. Bruce Wade will address some issues related to radial basis functions. All talks will be held in

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
