Description

UWM Tic Disorder Specialty Clinic has received a grant from the National Institutes of Mental Health/Tourette's Syndrome Association to evaluate non-drug treatments for Tourette's Syndrome and Chronic Tic Disorder in children between the ages of 9 and 17.

 

The Tic Disorders Specialty Clinic was developed to provide specialized services for persons with tic disorders and other body-focused repetitive behavior problems.  The clinic offers comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, psychological evaluations to determine the presenceof other psychological or behavioral problems, and behavioral assessments to determine how environmental factors effect the expression of tics and related behavior problems.   The clinic also offers the latest research-supported, therapist-guided, nonpharmacological treatments for tic symptoms and related behavioral concerns.   To see the research which supports the effectiveness of the treatments used in the clinic, (Supporting Research). Finally, the clinic offers consultations with schools and employers, educational workshops, and general psychological services for families of persons with tic disorders.

      In addition to offering assessment and treatment services, the Tic Disorders Specialty Clinic sometimes does research on various treatments for Tourette's Syndrome or otherrepetitive behavior disorders.  Currently, we are conducting one such study.   In all studies, participation is voluntary, and treatment is free.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Dr. Woods at (414) 229-2830 for more information.
