BARD Lab
Welcome to UWM's BARD Lab, the Laboratory for Biosensor Advanced Research and Design.  The symbol of our laboratory is Hygieia -- in Greek mythology, the Goddess of Health -- who serves to represent our ultimate objective:  the diagnosis and treatment of disease through innovative advances at the forefront of science, technology and engineering.  Welcome to the BARD Lab site -- it's always under construction, so visit us often!

Domitia en Hygiée.  Engraving by G. H. Chatillon, ca 1818.

Our Logo.  The BARD Lab logo (top left) is a representation of two interdisciplinary elements: a planar microelectronic device which is designed for high-frequency operation at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies, upon which is superimposed the universally-recognized double-helix of a DNA oligomer.  This is emblematic of the work we are doing in microelectronic biosensing for molecular diagnostics.

Our Motto.  The BARD motto, nulla scientia salutari sine beneficio, describes our guiding philosophy:  we will undertake no scientific investigation unless a benefit to health or healing can ultimately result from the work. (Latin translation and commentary, E. Cova and R. C. Monti, 2008.)
