Teaching Philosophy:

Teaching and learning are a journey of discovery, challenging but highly rewarding.  My vision for learning extends far beyond reading, writing, and calculating.  Learning develops the ability to think critically; express oneself clearly and effectively; define complex problems; and evaluate and implement solutions.  The potentials and challenges for critical thinking expand as information and data grows exponentially.  Learners and teachers must continuously develop the skills for information retrieval and evaluation.  Knowing how to find, evaluate, and use information allows us to sustain healthy societies and ecosystems.

I approach teaching as a co-learner hoping to build new knowledge in both the classroom and the community.  My role is to facilitate or coach the collaborative learning process of knowledge creation.  In this collaborative process, I encourage students to engage with contemporary issues both intellectually and through community involvement.
