NAME
  listmsg - sample components of Listserv welcome messages

SYNOPSIS
  listmsg

DESCRIPTION
  listmsg is a set of messages components that can be used as guides in
  creating welcoming messages for a given list.

LIST TYPE

  OPEN
       This list is an OPEN mailing list.  Thus, anyone may subscribe to it.
       Both subscribers and non-subscribers may post to the list.  The
       existence of this list is shown in the listing returned by listserv
       when it services a LISTS request.

  PUBLIC
       This list is a PUBLIC mailing list.  Thus, anyone may subscribe to it.
       However, only subscribers are allowed to post to the list.  The
       existence of this list is shown in the listing returned by listserv
       when it services a LISTS request.


  RESTRICTED
       This list is a RESTRICTED mailing list.	thus, subscriptions must be
       approved by the list owner but anyone is allowed to post to the list.
       The existence of this list is shown in the listing returned by list-
       serv when it services a LISTS request.


  SEMI-PRIVATE
       This list is a SEMI-PRIVATE mailing list.  Thus, subscriptions must be
       approved by the list owner and only subscribers are allowed to post to
       the list.  The existence of this list is shown in the listing returned
       by listserv when it services a LISTS request.


  PRIVATE
       This list is a PRIVATE mailing list.  Thus, subscriptions must be
       approved by the list owner and only subscribers are allowed to post to
       the list.  The existence of this list is not shown in the listing
       returned by listserv when it services a LISTS request.




CONCEALMENT

  CONCEALED
       The names of subscribers are not available.


  VISIBLE
       The names of all subscribers are available via a request sent to list-
       serv.

  MIXED
       Individual subscribers decide whether or not to make their names visi-
       ble.  Subscribers start out concealed.

  Note:	  You may wish to include a line saying who can send this request.
    subscribers and non-subscribers (open, public) only subscribers  (res-
    tricted, semi-private, private)


MODERATED
  This is a moderated list.  Any message which is posted must first be
  approved (and perhaps edited) by the list owner before being distributed to
  the list. If you need to know why your message was rejected or modifed,
  contact the list owner directly.


DIGESTS

  APPROXIMATE
       Digests for this list are generated after <lines> lines of messages or
       <hours> hours.


  EXACT
       Digests for this list are distributed <period> at <time>.


ARCHIVES

  Default
       All of the messages posted to this list are archived for future
       retrieval.  An index to the archives is obtainable by sending a index
       request to listserv.  Archives are organized by type of list and list
       name.


  FTP/Gopher
       All of the messages posted to this list are archived for future
       retrieval.  They are also available via ftp/gopher.  An index to the
       archives is obtainable by sending a index request to listserv.
       Archives are organized by type of list and list name.  Since these
       archives are available via ftp/gopher look in that directory when
       tracing the index files.


  Owner
       All of the messages posted to this list are archived by the list
       owner.  You must send mail to the owner to obtain copies of the
       archives.

  Note:	  You may also want to say whether the archives are daily or weekly,
  etc.



GROUP vs AUTHOR REPLY

  Reply to sender only vs group reply
       A default is that replies will go only to the group.  If you want to
       reply to just the individual who sent the message, you you must change
       the to address to that individual. This can be overridden by I&MT for
       the list.





MAIL DELIVERY

  ACK  One of the default settings for this list is that the sender of a mes-
       sage is sent a copy of the message when it is distributed.  If you
       wish not to receive a copy of your postings		  send mail
       to the list owner requesting to be changed to NOACK mail delivery.  If
       you wish to recieve only digests of all postings (including your own),
       send mail to the list owner requesting to be changed to DIGEST mail
       delivery.


  NOACK
       One of the default settings for this list is that the sender of a mes-
       sage does not get a copy of the message when it is distribted.  It you
       wish to receive a copy of your postings send mail to the list owner
       requesting to be changed to ACK mail delivery.  If you wish to recieve
       only digests of all postings (including your own), send mail to the
       list owner requesting to be changed to DIGEST mail delivery.


  DIGEST
       One of the default settings for this list is that a subscriber to the
       list only receives digests of all of the postings to the list.  If you
       wish to receive copies of the individual postings send mail to the
       list owner requesting ACK mail delivery if you want to receive copies
       of your postings or NOACK mail delivery if you do not want copies of
       your postings.
