Workshops in Geometric Topology

*****************

Ric Ancel and Craig Guilbault are co-organizers of a popular series of NSF sponsored summer workshops. Other organizers are: Dennis Garity (Oregon State University), Fred Tinsley (Colorado College), Gerard Venema (Calvin College) and David Wright (Brigham Young University)

The most recent workshop to be held in Milwaukee was the 2004 Workshop (June 10-12, 2004) which featured Peter Teichner of the University of California, Berkeley as principal speaker. Check the website for details, including a conference proceedings and Teichner's slides from each of the three principal lectures.

The 2007 Workshop will be held at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 28-30. Gerard Venema is the principal organizer. We are extremely happy to announce that Ian Agol of the University of Illinois at Chicago has accepted an invitation to serve as principal speaker.

** SPECIAL NOTE ** The organizers of the Workshops in Geometric Topology with the support of the National Science Foundation are currently preparing electronic versions of three famous unpublished manuscripts written by Robert D. Edwards in the 1970's. For details (including downloads) click here.

Here is some information, including links, about some other recent workshops:

  • The 2006 Workshop was hosted by Oregon State University with Dennis Garity the main organizer. Ruth Charney of Brandeis University was the principal speaker.
  • The 2005 Workshop was hosted by Colorado College with Fred Tinsley the main organizer. Tom Farrell of Binghamton University was the principal speaker.
  • The 2003 Workshop was held in conjunction with the Wasatch Topology Conference in Park City, Utah (hosted by Brigham Young University). David Wright was the main organizer of the Workshop and Martin Bridson of Imperial College, London was the Principal Speaker. A special event in honor of the 60th birthday of Jim Cannon was included with these conferences.
  • The 2002 Workshop was held at Calvin College Gerard Venema acting as principal organizer. Principal Speaker was Alexander Dranishnikov of the University of Florida. A special session in honor of Bob Daverman on the occasion of his 60th birthday was held in conjunction with this workshop. Click here for a collection of photos taken at these events.
