With an education in fine art, photography, computer graphics, and French, my work is synthesis of these disciplines.
My first artistic efforts were watercolor paintings. I liked the lightness and economy of the paints, although I did not always work in the usual wash manner, but often used a fine brush to work in precise detail. Most of my work at that time was influenced by surrealist artists and by my own spiritual ideas.
I studied airbrushing as I was finishing work on my Photography degree in Milwaukee. In photography, I most enjoyed experimentation and image manipulation techniques. My favorite class was Photo Science, which included working with negative reticulation, toners, obscure types of film, etc. to produce unusual photographic effects.
After graduating with a degree in Photography I worked doing photo restoration: airbrushing away cracks, etc. on copy photos of very old, damaged photos.
Along with photo retouching, at this time I also learned the art of hand coloring black and white photos with transparent oil colors. Hand coloring archivally processed, brown toned photos in this manner produces images which will stand the test of time, maintain their color and will not fade as do conventional color prints. I love the sense of sentimentality which is evoked with the images which have been hand colored.
I recently finished earning a bachelors degree in French (major) and Linguistics (minor) at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I work as Graphic Designer for the UW Milwaukee Women's Resource Center, and recently worked as a Reading Tutor for four year olds at a local Head Start elementary school.
