Homework Policy:

Homework will be due at the start of class each Friday unless otherwise indicated. Late homeworks will not be accepted without a university approved absence, such as a doctor's note. I will grade randomly selected problems from the homework.

You are strongly encouraged to work on homework in groups, but all submitted homework must be written up in your own words. Direct copying from others is not allowed, and you may not consult any type of answer key, solution book, or internet resource.

Please read the short homework style guide "Communicating Mathematics through Homework" (written by the Harvey Mudd math department). All homeworks must be written up in this (simple) format or they will not be accepted. (Ignore the section on LaTeX formatting.)

Examinations:

There will be two in-class exams and one final exam. The course grades will be determined as follows:

Homework 20%
First Exam 20%
Second Exam 20%
Final Exam 40%

The class will be curved. I will not set the curve until after the final, however after each exam, I will announce in class roughly what the cut-offs are for the letter grades for that exam—but only as a guideline.

Important dates:

First Exam: Week 5, Wednesday, October 3, 2007.
Second Exam: Week 10, Wednesday, November 7, 2007.
Final Exam: Monday, December 17 from 10:00am–12:00pm in our usual classroom, EMS E220

Missed exams:

You will not be allowed to make up any in-class exam or homework unless you provide me with a university approved absence, such as a doctor's note on official letterhead.

Drop/audit policy:

Last day to switch to audit (9/17). Last day to withdraw without "W" (10/1). Last day to withdraw with a "W" (10/26).
