Research:

My main research interests include hyperbolic groups, relatively hyperbolic groups, geometric group theory, and low-dimensional topology, with an interest in the relation between group theory and nonpositive curvature. In August 2002, I finished my Ph.D. at Cornell University under the guidance of Dani Wise and Karen Vogtmann. From 2002–2005, I held an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Chicago under the guidance of Benson Farb.

Teaching:

This spring, I am teaching Math 551, an introduction to topology. Please see the course web page for more information.

Personal:

My son, Benji Hruska, was born on 5 April 2005 in Chicago, IL. He currently attends the UWM–Children’s Center. My daughter, Abby Hruska, was born on 18 October 2008 in Milwaukee, WI. She hangs out a lot in her Hotslings baby sling. Abby, Benji, and their father also go to Naomi’s Music Together once a week.

My wife, Suzanne Hruska, is also an assistant professor in the mathematical sciences department at UWM.
