As a courtesy to you, I accept up to two late homework assignments OR late quizzes which must be accompanied by extra work. The late homework (quiz) and "extra work" must be turned in within one week of the original due date.  You can do any of the extra credit options listed in the extra credit section as the extra work for late homework (quiz). The late homework only requires one extra credit point, so if your choice involves more than one point, the other point(s) are allocated to extra credit.  IF YOU HAVE EXISTING EXTRA CREDIT, I AUTOMATICALLY USE ONE OF THESE POINTS, WHICH YOU MAY REPLACE WHEN YOUR TIME ALLOWS.  If you don't have extra credit already turned in, the extra work MUST BE TURNED IN WITHIN A ONE WEEK TIME PERIOD. I WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCING THE ONE WEEK TIME PERIOD, so you need to stay on top of any late assignments.

I would be delighted to buy lunch or an early dinner for any of you interested in joining me. Email me with a date, pick up two of your favorite meals somewhere, and come to my office so we can eat. We can talk about school, careers, life, or anything else on your mind. I will reimburse you when you get to my office.

To show my appreciation for the extra effort it takes to be at the top of the class, I am pleased to send you and someone special out to dinner at the Olive Garden.

Extra Credit

As a courtesy to you, you may earn up to 8 extra credit points in my class (which most students choose to do).  In order to receive the full 8 extra credit points, you must earn at least 4 extra credit points by one week AFTER the first exam.  All remaining extra credit must be completed by one week BEFORE the final exam. Just to be clear, you MAY earn all eight points as soon as you'd like, but at least four points must meet the first deadline. For example, if you have earned a total of 3 extra credit points by one week after the first exam, you will only be able to earn a maximum of 7 (3 + 4) extra credit points for the semester.  In contrast, if you have earned a total of 6 extra credit points by one week after the first exam, you will only need 2 more points in order to be able to earn the full 8 extra credit points for the semester. I WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCING THESE DEADLINES. Your four extra credit options are detailed below. 

1) Service Project

• Working at The Gathering feeding disadvantaged--You can go to St. James Episcopal Church on the corner of 8th and Wisconsin (map) to serve breakfast. You can show up any day on Monday through Friday between 7:00 and 7:30am and you are done around 9:45. Alternatively, you can go to The Milwaukee Outreach Center on 724 S. Layton Blvd (1/2 block from the domes). You can show up on Monday or Wednesday afternoon by 3:45pm and you will be done around 6:15pm. They only take pre-signed up groups on the weekend to serve lunch. You will be REALLY glad you took time to help others in need. A day of working at the Gathering is worth 2 extra credit points. If you are using the Gathering for late homework, 1 point will be used for the late homework and 1 point will be given as extra credit. You need to sign in on the signup sheet at the Gathering and afterward send me an email telling me which day you were there, who the "boss" was that day and what was served for breakfast. The subject of your email should say Gathering extra credit, Gathering late homework for assignment XX or Gathering late quiz for quiz #XX.
  
  

2) Auditing Review Questions

Past students STRONGLY suggest you to do the review questions BEFORE the upcoming respective quizzes or exams. PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP A COPY OF THE REVIEW QUESTIONS FOR YOUR OWN STUDIES, the ORIGINAL WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Each set of questions is worth 1 extra credit point.

3) Notecards

• One of the things that will help you greatly in getting a handle on the mnemonics in this class (and studying later for the CPA Exam) is to prepare notecards. Buy a package of 3 X 5 or 4 X 6 cards--whichever size you are more likely to keep with you to review frequently. Take the mnemonic handout that is in your class notes. For each mnemonic given, write the mnemonic and what it is for on one side of the card. Flip it over and write what each letter of the mnemonic stands for as shown in the example below. You will use these like flashcards and they are very effective in trying to learn the mnemonics. Put the number of the mnemonic in the top right hand corner on the front of the card. It is smart (but certainly not required) to put a post-it note on each card with the mnemonic written on it and then you can take them off as you have the mnemonic memorized. Each exam has a ten point mnemonic question on it where you are able to get all ten points as long as you know the mnemonics. You get 1 extra credit point for 25 notecards, 2 for 50 and 3 points for all 66 notecards. DO NOT LOSE THESE--YOU WILL BE VERY SAD L AT CPA EXAM TIME IF YOU DO!!!!

Note: You may be wondering about the order of the notecards. I have set it up to be the order in which you will want to prepare for the CPA exam later on.

4) Library Video and Write up

• You can choose to watch one of the library videos and send me a one page summary of the video. The videos are located in Library Media Services (open M-Th 8-8 and F 8-5), on the first floor in the east wing. Your email to me should have the subject: Video extra credit, Video late homework for assignment XX or Video late quiz for quiz #XX. Each video is worth = 1 extra credit point. The video choices are:

• You can also go to Blockbuster and rent the video THE EMPEROR'S CLUB and write a 1 1/2 to 2 page summary of the ethical issues raised in the movies for 2 extra credit points.
