Professor Pradeep Rohatgi, Director
Pradeep Rohatgi received his undergraduate education from Banaras University in India and received his masters and Doctorate in science from MIT in 1963 and 1964. He returned to India where he served as a Professor at Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Technology. He also served as the Founder, Director, and Chief Executive officer of two National Laboratories, one in Trivandrum and the other in Bhopal, India. He currently serves as a Wisconsin Distinguished Professor and Director UWM Composite Center at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He also serves as Foundry Education Foundation Key Professor and was appointed Ford Professor at UWM. He has coauthored eleven books and over four hundred scientific papers and has 20 U.S. Patents. He has been elected to Fellowships of several academies, and societies (ASM, AAAS, TWAS) and has received numerous awards for excellence in Research. His initial research on Cast Metal Matrix Composites has been listed as a major landmark in the 11000 year history of Metal Casting. In addition to writing policy papers and books on long term futures and ecostructuring, he has developed new lightweight composite materials to reduce energy consumption and reduce emissions. He serves on committees of Governments of United States and India including those related to collaborations in the areas of materials, especially those related to automotive sector, energy and environments. His research has been supported by NSF, DOE, Office of Naval Research, EPRI, and major private sector organizations including Ford and General Motors, Sunstrand, Alcan, and A.O. Smith; currently he is working on a project from Tank and Automotive Command on “Advanced Rapid Manufacture Of Lightweight Materials And Components For Military Applications.”
