Program Curriculum

Students in the program complete the following:

  • 18 credits (about 6 courses) in one academic year (September to May).


  • Capstone Requirement that involves international study through one of the following:

    an internship with an international company
    a course at a cooperating university abroad
    a special project on an international issue

Core Courses

Students select three courses from among the following:

  • English 435 Professional and Technical Writing
  • English 436 Writing for Information Technology
  • English 437 Project Management for Professional Writers
  • English 439 Document Design
  • English 708 Advanced Professional Writing
  • English 709 Rhetoric, Writing, and Information Technology
  • English 710 Advanced Project Management for Professional Writers

Elective Areas

Students select two elective courses from a wide variety of subject areas at UWM.

Business Administration

  • International Human Resource Management
  • Multinational Business Operations
  • Managing Information Technology

Communication and Training

  • International and Global Communication
  • Seminar in Intercultural Communication
  • Cultural Adjustment and Training

Translation and Foreign Languages

  • Seminar in Advanced Translation
  • Terminology Management and Computer Translation
