The Freshman Advising Program can help you get off to a great start at UWM by providing personal attention and service. Some of the services the freshman advisors provide include: explaining L&S degree and major requirements; assisting with class selection and registration; helping you choose a major; assisting with time management and study skills; and helping you understand the myriad of things a new student needs to know. Their primary function is to help you plan your classes and make sure you understand the many academic options available to you. Some of the special services they provide include: frequent contacts with you via e-mail and letters; the opportunity for one-on-one meetings at least once every semester (you can meet with them as many times as you want); advising prior to the registration deadline each semester; and information about programs and events at the University throughout the year.
If you would like to schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor call 414-229-4654.

Jennifer DeRoche
Advisor, Holton 145, Phone: 414-229-6622
Welcome to the College of Letters and Science! My name is Jennifer DeRoche and I advise first-year students in the College. I really believe in the importance of a liberal arts education because I benefited a great deal from my own undergraduate experience in the liberal arts. I grew up in a very small town in Wisconsin (population 450!); for me, going to college and studying new subjects like philosophy, sociology, linguistics, and political science opened up new worlds to me. I completed my undergraduate degree in 1992 with majors in English and Philosophy. The highlight of my undergraduate experience was spending a semester abroad in Australia--I highly recommend study abroad to anyone who is interested in the experience of a lifetime. I recently finished my Master's degree in English here at UWM. I really enjoy working with first-year students because, while the first year of college can be really challenging, it also is a very exciting time.

Welcome to UWM! My name is Jenny Rahmer and I advise freshmen in the College of Letters & Science. During my college years, I learned as much from my experiences outside the classroom as I did in the classroom. I completed my Master's degree in counseling here at UWM, and my Bachelor's degree in psychology and communication at UW-La Crosse. I thoroughly enjoyed my own college experience and look forward to working with first-year students. Freshman year is an exciting time that may also involve some challenges while learning how to navigate the college system. As an advisor, I am here to help students understand university policies and procedures, learn degree requirements, select appropriate classes, clarify academic and career goals, and identify the many other resources here at UWM. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to make an appointment with me, please call (414) 229-4654. |
