The College of Letters and Science encourages all students to meet with their professional advisors on a regular basis. After the freshman year, continuing students are assigned to advisors who will remain as their permanent advisors until graduation. Advisors provide valuable information regarding academic requirements and options; policies and procedures; the declaration of major process; and ultimately will help to insure that all graduation requirements are satisfied.
If you would like to schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor call 414-229-4654.

Jim Klingbiel
Advisor, Holton 149, Phone: 414-229-6932
My name is Jim Klingbiel and I advise continuing students from their sophomore year through graduation. I also serve as the initial advising contact for students who have completed a Bachelors degree and are interested in pursuing a second degree.
I also advise at UW Washington County for UWM's College Connection Program. I graduated from UWM but started at UW Waukesha so I am familiar with the two year centers from a students perspective. Frank Villarreal
Senior Advisor, Holton 131, Phone: 414-229-5876
Frank began his student academic service career at UWM in 1989 as the Coordinator for the Latino Student Academic Services. In 1997, he left that position and became an advisor for continuing students in the College of Letters and Science.
His education consists of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from New Mexico Highlands University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Prior to UWM, Frank taught elementary education in the states of New Mexico, Kansas, Texas and Wisconsin. He also was the Pre-College Coordinator for INROADS/Wisconsin.
In advising students, he focuses on his own college experience and successfully relates to the problems and frustrations students sometimes face. It gives him the opportunity to be sympathetic and suggest ways in which students can succeed and meet their educational goal. As an advocate for student achievement, he tries to find the best way his students can get the best education possible. He states that even though he enjoys all aspects of his advising position, he finds the most satisfaction in watching his students walk across the stage to receive their degree.
