Producer, "Lake Effect" (Associate Broadcast Specialist)

Description of Principal Duties:
Producers at WUWM are broadcast professionals who know how to communicate with our listeners about issues and events of importance or interest and embrace the production and editorial standards that exemplify public radio journalism. Under the direction of the program's executive producer, this individual will:

  • Research ideas for interviews and provide background material to interviewers.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of guests for the program.
  • Contribute ideas for future program segments with an emphasis on Milwaukee's diverse urban community.
  • Edit program interviews and segments in preparation for broadcast.
  • Edit program segments into final broadcast format.
  • Conduct occasional interviews for broadcast as assigned.
  • Prepare material for the station's website.
  • Respond to questions and inquiries from listeners and members of the public.
  • Archive broadcast material and make copies as needed.
  • Participate in station outreach activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience with computers.
  • Degree in journalism or related field preferred.
  • Experience with digital editing preferred.
  • Familiarity with issues facing a diverse urban community preferred.
