Position Title: Senior or no-prefix Information Processing Consultant (Computer System Administrator). This is a full-time fixed-term academic staff (non-faculty) position.
Starting Date: 14 November 2007 or as soon as possible.
Position Description: The LIGO Group at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is seeking a computer system administrator to maintain the hardware and software.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities of the position will include: Installation, maintenance and configuration of Linux/Unix operating systems; Installation, maintenance and configuration of network services (DNS, DHCP, SMTP, NTP, etc.); Physical installation of computing hardware; System and network security; Provide support for applications, operations and help desk personnel; Write programs, scripts and batch procedures as required to improve system functionality; System backups and verification; Troubleshoot software and hardware problems.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree. Good working knowledge of Linux software and of the UNIX operating system administration are required. Also required is the ability to maintain/repair/upgrade hardware, to program in C/C++, bash, python and/or other scripting languages and at least 2 years of work-related experience. Experience, knowledge and understanding of working in a production environment is desirable.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
