Associate Research Specialist, Molecular Genetics of Birds

A laboratory technician is needed for a study of the population genetics of birds. Current research focuses on the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and its relationship to survival and reproduction in wild populations of prairie-chickens, particularly in Wisconsin. The successful candidate will be involved in molecular genetic analyses of these samples and will have a solid foundation in standard techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in any of the following: microsatellites, constructing genomic libraries, sequencing using DDGE/SSCP, or immunogenetics. A relevant B.A. or B.S. degree and experience in standard molecular techniques is required.

Appointment begins 1 March 2008, but the start date is flexible. This is a full-time position for two years. Salary range is $27,000 to $32,000 with full benefits.
