WORKING TITLE: Assistant Professor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. with a concentration in Post-1970 art history and teaching experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate should have an interest in the Department's Museum Studies program. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Applicants with an interest or experience in implementing a diverse curriculum also desirable.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: The position is responsible for teaching four courses per year with a concentration in Post-1970 art history and is expected to contribute to the education of undergraduate and graduate students (M.A.) in the Department of Art History.

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Tenure Track, academic year, faculty appointment.

FULL TIME SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

STARTING DATE: August 18, 2008

UWM/DEPARTMENT: The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is one of two public doctoral research universities in the state of Wisconsin. The campus is in a pleasant residential neighborhood on Milwaukee's northeast side, only a few minutes from downtown Milwaukee. UWM has an enrollment of over 28,000 students and offers 155 degree programs through twelve schools and colleges.

The Department of Art History at UWM has one of two art history graduate programs in the State of Wisconsin and includes nine faculty members and two staff members. The Department's faculty bring an impressive range of expertise to the Department, with doctorates from some of the country's leading universities. Mitchell Hall is technologically sophisticated, with all its lecture halls and its seminar room equipped with multimedia command consoles networked to the School's computer systems. The Department is also home to the Art History Gallery, which houses the UWM Art Collection and offers additional teaching resources for Department faculty and academic staff.
