The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research:
Undergraduate student participants in either Sites or Supplements must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions.
Students may not apply to NSF to participate in REU activities. Students apply directly to REU Sites and should consult the directory of active REU Sites on the Web at http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm.
The Web Guide to Research for Undergraduates (WebGURU) is intended to provide undergraduates interested in and/or currently participating in undergraduate research experiences in science, technology, engineering, an/or mathematics with information and links to reliable electronic resources on all aspects of the undergraduate research experience. http://www.webguru.neu.edu/index.php
The following project is a special project funded by the National Science Foundation. If you are interested in other NSF sponsored programs for undergraduates, please visit the Research Experience for Undergraduates website of the NSF: www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm
Project Description
The Great Lakes WATER Institute is an environmental research unit of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Located on Lake Michigan, its scientists work to understand aquatic environmental sciences in an interdisciplinary setting using both traditional and highly technological approaches. Students are educated in 'bench science' working side by side with active research scientists. This is a paid opportunity.
