For Faculty

Faculty and Academic Staff from across UWM are welcome to contribute projects to our UROP database. If you have questions about the program, please contact Nigel Rothfels (rothfels@uwm.edu) or Kyla Moore (kylam@uwm.edu) directly. You may also take a quick look at the FAQ we've prepared for faculty.

Submitting your UROP project

The title of your project may determine whether or not a student will read about your project. Please spend a few moments developing a title that is neither too abstract nor too general. A good title will encourage the student to investigate the contents of your project. The project description and tasks should be easily comprehensible for a student with little or no experience in your field. We have found that UROP attracts motivated individuals who, with a little training, may be of great assistance with your research. Remember, though, that they usually start out knowing very little.

How to get funding for undergraduates if you have an NSF grant

If you are interested in obtaining a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Supplement as part of an NSF proposal or renewal grant, please visit the NSF REU webpage.

Additionally, NSF’s Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE) will entertain requests to supplement an REU award in order to add an international dimension or International Research Experience for Students (IRES). More information is available at the Looking Beyond the Borders webpage.

Lin Lee

I found the UROP students to be some of the most talented and devoted researchers. UROP students are doing research in my lab in genetics and molecular biology. They also participate in group meetings in which they discuss the aim, approach, rational and results of the research projects with other students. It has been a very rewarding experience for me.
