Recommendation:

That the L&S Faculty recommend to the Dean approval of a proposal from the PSOA Film Department and the L&S Film Studies Program to change the name of the UWM Film and Film Studies Programs to BFA in Film/BA in Film Studies.

Rationale

The University of Wisconsin System noted in early-2007 that no formal motion has been approved that separates into two distinct tracks the PSOA BFA major in Film and the L&S BA major in Film Studies. The two program tracks have been acting as distinct programs since 1984. By approving this motion, the faculty in both L&S and PSOA are formalizing the degree granting relationship that has been the practice since 1984. This name change will also eliminate transcript problems that have been occurring as a result of the current designation of the program.
