College of Letters and Science Faculty Document No. 767
November 29, 2007
Recommendation of Comparative Study of Religion Major Advisory Committee and the L&S Academic Policies and Curriculum Committee to Create a Religious Studies Curricular Area
Recommendation:
That the L&S Faculty recommend to the Dean approval of the Religious Studies curricular area.
Rationale:
The Comparative Study of Religion major has become increasingly popular, with majors and intended majors increasing from 75 last year to 115 this year. The program has some difficulty ensuring that the appropriate courses are offered as needed because they currently all exist under other program curricular areas. Creating a Religious Studies curricular area will result in these courses appearing under their own heading in the Schedule of Classes, making it easier for students to find them and for the program to offer courses as needed.
