Recommendation:

That the L&S Faculty reaffirm its approval of a motion to recommend acceptance of the Spanish M.A. Implementation Plan.

Rationale:

The L&S Faculty, at its meeting on December 15, 2005, recommended to the Dean that he approve the Spanish M.A. Implementation Plan. Subsequently, the campus was notified by System Administration that the original entitlement to plan the M.A. degree had expired and that the Spanish M.A. proposal would have to be subjected to the entire approval process again. The Department of Spanish and Portuguese recreated its request for an entitlement to plan a Master of Arts in Spanish, which subsequently received approval from all necessary campus governance bodies. Upon receiving the approved entitlement proposal, System Administration reconsidered its initial position that a new entitlement request had to be submitted, and the Department was granted the entitlement on the basis of the original approval. Because two years had passed since the approval of the Implementation Plan, campus administration indicated that it would be advisable to have all necessary campus governance bodies review the plan once again. At its recent meeting, the L&S Academic Program and Curriculum Committee reaffirmed its approval of the Implementation Plan, noting that that it had been updated with information current in 2007 and that there were no substantive changes from the original Implementation Plan.
