  5. Old Business
    1. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following course:
Physics 409   Quantum Physics Laboratory (title, descrip, prereq, level) - new syllabus requested with description of goals and U/G grading.
Some of the committee members wanted to see a week by week breakdown of activities on the course syllabus to see how the course unfolds throughout the semester. Some members questioned whether or not the U/G differentiation was adequate. Would the course get through the graduate curriculum committee? Others argued that it's not this committee's business to try to guess what the GCC may or may not do. Connie Jo said that, unlike the campus-level APCC, the L&S curriculum committee does not mandate that courses with three or more changes include a syllabus. However, Connie included the syllabus as a courtesy to help committee members get a better understanding of the proposed changes. Given these concerns, a substitute motion to table the course for further clarification was seconded. The substitute motion failed with three members voting in favor of it, four against. The original motion was approved with four voting in favor, three against.
    2. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following course:
Psych 696   Internship in the Teaching of Psychology (new) - objection to "retakable" provision
At the last meeting, one of the objections to the course had to do with the "retakable" option. The course is no longer retakable. However, members remained concerned about having interns teach rather than paid TA's. They wondered if there would be Union challenges. Why not pay the students as undergraduate TA's? Members also had concerns about the course being 3 credits. To some members, it seemed that it would be more appropriate to offer the course for 1 credit, given the course content. The motion to approve the course failed with one member voting in favor of the motion, one member abstaining, and five members voting against.
    3. Request to Reapprove the Name Change of UWM Film and Film Studies Major to BFA in Film/BA in Film Studies. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Faculty reapproval of the Name Change of UWM Film and Film Studies Major to BFA in Film/BA in Film Studies.
    4. Extraordinary Accommodations -- Connie reported that all of the members who were on the committee the last time have agreed to again serve. She is collecting individuals' schedules and will arrange a meeting as soon as possible.
