Margaret Mika responded to questions about the course. Michael Weinert pointed out that the course syllabus says that the course is retakable, but the CAR form does not. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following course:
John Heywood was in attendance to answer questions. Tom O'Bryan asked if it was necessary to inform students that the books for the course were purchased by StudentLoanXpress (this information is on the syllabus). He also questioned what was meant by the statement "Students who do not return the book at the end of the class will see a severe negative impact on their grade." How, exactly, will student grades be impacted? Tom thought it might be more appropriate to have the library place a hold on the record of a student who does not return the book, rather than to have the grade negatively impacted. John said the StudentLoanXpress sentence would be removed, providing that there was not some kind of contractual arrangement with StudentLoanXpress; he also said that he would either eliminate the sentence that says the grade will be negatively impacted if books are not returned, or work out the kinks. With this understanding, the motion was approved.Econ 110 Economics of Personal Finance (new) VI.C. 3. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal to change the requirements of the Cultures and Communities Certificate. Gregory Jay responded to questions. With the contingency that the third sentence under "new copy" be revised to say "Students who transfer to UWM may petition to count up to a maximum of six credits in courses from other institutions that transfer to UWM as electives," the motion was approved.
It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

Internship in the Teaching of Psychology (new)
Committee members voiced a number of concerns about the course. They wondered why it was retakable. What new information would students receive from the course if they took it a second or third time? A second concern had to do with the lack of specificity with regard to how students would be graded. Members thought the syllabus should provide more detailed information about grading. Some members questioned using interns rather than paid TA's for this task. Finally, members voiced concern because the syllabus did not spell out what students would gain academically from the course. A motion to table the course for further clarification was seconded and approved. - Recommendation to Revise the Requirements of the Women's Studies Certificate - Women's Studies requested that this be pulled from the agenda.
