Recommendation to Amend the Charter of the Academic Planning and Governance Committee to Redefined the Selection of the Committee Chair
Recommendation:
That the Faculty revise, as indicated below, section 1. Membership b, of the Charter of the Academic Planning and Governance Committee to require that the new chair be elected from among the members who have completed their first year on the committee and that the previous year's chair serve as the co-chair of the committee.
Rationale:
For the committee to benefit from the expertise and leadership skills of previous committee chairs, it makes sense to select a new chair from among individuals who are serving their second year on the committee and to have the previous chair, who will be in his/her third year, serve as the co-chair. The chair will have had one year of experience as a member. The co-chair, because of his/her service as chair in the previous year, will be a valuable resource for the new chair.
