- Call to Order -- The Chair, Glen Fredlund, called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. in Holton 241.
- Special Order of Business - Discussion with Dean Meadows
- Resource Planning -- Dean Meadows reported to the committee some of the ideas and initiatives being explored by Chancellor Santiago. Because space is such a problem on campus, the Chancellor is looking into the possibility of developing new "campuses" for UWM clinical, health-related, and engineering programs. Possible sites include downtown (12th St. between Kilbourn and State) for the health-related programs and near the Milwaukee County Research Park (I94 and Highway 45) for engineering. The College of Letters and Science likely would remain on this campus. Dean Meadows emphasized that this is highly speculative-such initiatives would require private and state money, neither of which has yet been sought.
If resources cannot be found to purchase land, another possibility that remains for campus expansion is a merger with UW-Waukesha, which the Waukesha County Board favors, though Dean Meadows does not know how that issue will be resolved. Partnering with Waukesha County Technical College also is being considered.
Dean Meadows provided to the committee a statement of "Resource Planning Guidelines" prepared by the Provost's office and asked for committee members' feedback. The information collected from the APGC, Chairs, Directors, and others will assist campus administration in its strategic planning. The Dean asked the committee to focus on broader issues such as whether the College of Letters and Science should remain on campus. - SSEA Evaluation of Administrators - Dean Meadows said the committee should receive this in a month or so. For more information, he said to contact Cindy Walker.
