- Call to Order - The chair, Kathryn Dindia, called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. in HLT 241.
It was moved, seconded, and approved to suspend the agenda to accommodate guests.
| V.D.2.f. |
It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the JMC proposal for completion of the L&S Research requirement. Jeff Smith attended the meeting to respond to questions about the research proposal. The motion was approved. |
| IV.A. |
It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the History Department's proposal to modify the requirements of the Master of Arts in History (Public History Specialization). Jasmine Alinder and Michael Gordon responded to questions about the proposal. After some discussion, it became clear that confusion about the proposed changes stemmed from the way in which the proposal was formatted. Connie Jo explained that the formatting is a result of limitations imposed by the on-line change form. Members suggested that a clearly formatted proposal should accompany the on-line form when the proposal is forwarded to the next committee. The motion was approved.

It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

- Proposal to Change the Requirements of the Organizational Administration/Committee Interdisciplinary Major - It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal to change the requirements of the Organizational Administration CIM. Kathryn Dindia responded to questions about the proposal. The changes reflect the fact that students do not choose to take Psych 325, probably because it is not offered on-line. Members noted that a consequence of eliminating the capstone course is that there will be a 3 credit reduction in the total number of credits required for the major. Members asked that this 3-credit reduction be stated explicitly in the summary of changes section of the proposal. With this change, the motion was approved.
- Research Requirement Proposals - After a long discussion about whether or not it was necessary to define "research," no formal action was taken to do so. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of each of the following proposals for completion of the L&S research requirement. The Committee's action on each of those motions is indicated below:
- Communication - The motion was approved.
- Spanish- The motion was approved.
- History - The motion was approved.
- Psychology - The motion was approved with one abstention.
- Italian - It was moved, seconded, and approved to table the proposal and to ask the Italian program to respond more fully to question 5 on the research proposal form.

- Organizational Communication - The motion was approved.
- Draft Memo to APCC re: Ten-Year-Review-Related Moratorium on Curricular Matters - The Committee approved the draft of the memo without changes and asked that Connie Jo send it to the campus APCC.
- Online Declaration of Major/Minor - The Committee discussed Lex Renda's suggestion that the College set up the Declaration of Major/Minor forms on-line to allow students to submit their forms electronically. Committee members agreed that anyone who wants to set up his/her own on-line submission form may do so; in addition, a down-loadable form should be put on the L&S web-site. Tom O'Bryan said he would check with Cheryl Scherkenbach to find out exactly what kind of paper trail is needed for the declaration process.
