- Director's Report.
Baldassaro made the following announcements:
* On September 14th, the Senate voted to approve faculty document #2505, a resolution to change the name of the "Honors Program" to "Honors College." The name change process was completed on September 20th when Provost Cheng sent a memo to UW System confirming her and the Chancellor's concurrence with the name change.
* Anonymous donors again donated $6,000 to the Honors College for scholarships.
* The Honors College and Honors College Student Association sponsor a number of events each year, including a new freshman orientation in September, writing and scholarship workshops, and two booksales. A summary of these events from 2004-05 was distributed; Baldassaro then reported on the events scheduled for this year. At the Honors College new freshmen orientation, 117 students attended-- another excellent turn-out; the writing workshops, presented by Lydia Equitz, were also well attended. The HCSA Booksale, scheduled for October 5-6, is always an excellent fund-raiser for the HCSA. Baldassaro noted that used book donations are needed for the booksale.
* Baldassaro asked Kate Coffaro to report on other HCSA activities, as well as the scholarship workshop she organized. Coffaro reported that her scholarship workshop went well, with 15 students attending. The HCSA pizza party attracted 63 students, and the AIDS walk "HCSA team" raised $1500.00. The HCSA will offer two booksales this year, and will participate in the "Toys for Tots" toy drive.
* Baldassaro informed the committee that the Honors College will be conducting a search in Philosophy this year to replace Scott Spiker, who will have fulfilled his three-year term as Bradley Visiting Assistant Professor by the end of the 2005-06 academic year. John Koethe (from the Philsophy Department) agreed to chair the search committee; other search committee members include David Southward, Lydia Equitz, Philip Lorenz, and an Honors College student.
- Kim Romenesko explained the approval process for new Honors seminars and provided Faculty Handbooks and Course Description Books to members who wanted them.
