Committee members expressed concern that the "late paper" statement was too harsh. In addition, some members felt that the assessment section needed clarification. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following CAR forms:

|
It was noted that the School/College listed on these CAR forms is Business Administration. Connie Jo explained that Global Studies is owned jointly by L&S and Bus Adm, but the CAR form system will allow only one school/college home. Bus Adm shows up because it comes first alphabetically. With the addition of tracks with other academic partners, it is more appropriate for L&S to be listed as the home; L&S is a participant in all the tracks. onnie will request that Enrollment Services make that change.
Each of the courses was discussed individually, with Sara Tully answering committee members' questions. The actions were as follows:
Global 351 - tabled for clarification of the initial instructor; inclusion of contact information, course requirements, and grading; linkage of readings to specific topics to be covered. Kathryn Dindia indicated that the Communication Department had reviewed the proposal and had no objections to it.
Global 371 - approved
Global 421 - approved with the addition of contact information to the syllabus; it was noted that Geography had been consulted.
Global 451 - tabled for clarification of reading assignments; they don't seem compatible with the topics being covered
Global 471 - tabled for more detailed information about the course assignments, readings, grading.

- Request to Establish Honors in the Film Studies Major - It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the Film Studies Program request to establish honors in the major. Tom O'Bryan pointed out that the proposal did not address the overall or advanced course GPAs although the College has minimum standards for those as well as the major GPA. Connie noted that there was a general statement about the College's requirements in the honors section of the catalog; departments tend to list any requirements that vary from the minimum. Committee members agreed that students could be misled by not having all the information together. The motion was amended to approve the Film Studies proposal with the minimum College requirements added. That motion was approved. The Committee also directed Connie to look at all other "Honors in the Major" statements and to notify departments without at least the College's minimum GPAs listed as part of the requirements that they would have to be amended.
- Recommendation to Change the Name of the Master of Arts in Foreign Language and Literature (MAFLL) - Connie reported that this item has been withdrawn for further discussion by the MAFLL Faculty.

- Reconsideration of Previous Actions
- Master of Arts in Spanish - Margaret Atherton moved a reconsideration of the Committee's previous action on the request for authorization to implement a Master of Arts in Spanish. As required by Robert's Rules of Order, Margaret confirmed that she had voted with the majority on the previous action. The motion was seconded and approved, placing back on the table the motion to recommend to the Dean approval of the Spanish MA. Margaret explained that she became aware after the previous meeting that the proposal may not have been vetted thoroughly prior to its approval at the previous meeting, particularly that the MAFLL Faculty had not had time to review it. Gabrielle Verdier noted, however, that the MAFLL Faculty had reviewed the proposal since the last meeting and had voted to support its approval. She noted that the proposal set higher admission standards than currently approved for MAFLL, so it was likely that some current students would not be admissible. She also pointed out that the focus of the degree is heavily oriented toward literature, which may not be the primary interest of teachers seeking a master's degree. Ismael Márquez responded that this master's degree was intended as preparation for PhD work, and the standards were in line with other such programs in the country. Both Ismael and Gabrielle confirmed that Spanish had reiterated its commitment to supporting the MAFLL program through offering the core pedagogy course as well as courses for the Translation program. The motion was approved.
- Implementation of L&S Degree Requirement Changes - A motion to reconsider the Committee's prior action on the implementation date for the changes to the L&S degree requirements failed for lack of a second.
- Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Assistant Dean Connie Jo
