Recommendations of the Ad Hoc Earth and Freshwater Sciences Committee, Department of Geosciences, and L&S Academic Policies and Curriculum Committee to Rename and Modify the Geosciences Ph.D.

Recommendations:

1. Within the current geosciences Ph.D., separate geology and water resources/ hydrogeology into two distinct areas of emphasis.
2. Add a third area of emphasis in freshwater systems.
3. Require students to select an area of emphasis and to take two courses outside that area.
4. Add a requirement that students participate in a monthly seminar series (EFS 901).
5. Add a "Major Professor as Adviser" section.
6. Define the structure of the dissertation proposal.
7. Rename the degree as Earth and Freshwater Sciences
