The Certificate in Pre-Medical Studies has been active for approximately seven years. Information on the Certificate is available in the Undergraduate Catalog, the Schedule of Classes, L&S Advising web page, and through the pre-professional advising office and the program coordinator. The program has ten students currently enrolled and seven students were awarded the certificate upon graduation in 2003-04.

The Certificate Program in Pre-Medical Studies approved a revision in the certificate description that moves many of the lower level natural science courses to prerequisite core classes rather than being included in the total number of credits for the certificate. This was done in an effort to recognize primarily upper division natural science course work as being central to the certificate. Additional science electives have been added to the certificate (Medical Physics 305 and Biophysics 306).

The certificate program has been running without difficulty for several years and therefore the committee serves as an advisory body and is convened once per year. Additional meetings may be called at the discretion of the certificate coordinator. Patty Cobb (Pre-Medical Advisor), Robert Wood (Certificate Coordinator), and other interested faculty are currently working on the development and improvement of the content of the certificate. These activities are informed by Patty Cobb's conversations with Medical School Admission Committees and the recent introduction of an interdisciplinary medical imaging program in the Physics Department.
