2003-2004
Meetings
The Course and Curriculum Committee of the College of Letters and Science held nine meetings during the academic year to carry out its functions as authorized by Letters and Science faculty document #168. The meetings were: September 25, 2003; October 20, 2003; November 13, 2003; December 8, 2003; January 23, 2004; February 20, 2004; March 19, 2004; April 16, 2004; and May 14, 2004.
Procedural Matters
- Sara Hoot was elected Chair for the 2003-2004 academic year.
- Madeleine Velguth was elected Co-Chair for the 2003-2004 academic year.
- Sub-committee chairs were elected for 2003-2004: Jennifer Watson for HU; Christopher DeSousa for SS; and Doug Cherkauer for NS.
- Considered a Committee on Committees proposal to the L&S Faculty to combine the APAC, GPC, and the C&CC into a Academic Policies and Curriculum Committee.
- Kent Redding was elected Chair for the 2004-2005 academic year.
- The Committee authorized the chair to act on behalf of the entire committee to approve non-controversial items submitted during the summer.
Legislative Recommendations
The following recommendations were forwarded to the Dean for his action or referral to the Faculty.
- Approval of the request for blanket approval to make 497 Study Abroad available for graduate credit.
- Approval of the proposal to change the geography major requirements.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the capstone requirement in the Spanish major.
- Approval of the proposal to modify requirements of the minor in film studies.
- Approval of proposal to change the requirements in the biological science major.
- Approval of proposal to change the name of the Environmental Studies curricular area to Conservation and Environmental Science.
- Approval of request for cultural diversity designation for three courses from Nicolet Area Technical College. The first and third course were approved by the Committee, but the second course was denied.
- Approval of proposal to change the requirements of the biotechnology certificate.
- Approval of the proposal to change the requirements for high honors in the Political Science Department.
- Approval of a request for an "Entitlement to Plan a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science".
- Approval of a procedure for conducting the review of the L&S degree requirements implemented in Fall, 1998.
- Approval of the proposal to alter the capstone requirement for the atmospheric sciences major.
- Approval of request for an " Entitlement to Plan a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematical Sciences, Business, and Economics".
- Approval of request for " Authorization to Implement a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science".
- Approval of a recommendation to establish a minor in Portuguese.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the requirements of the comparative literature major.
- Approval of the proposal to review the requirements of the organizational administration major option of the committee interdisciplinary major.
- Approval of the proposal to change the structure of the Organizational Administration Coordinating Committee.
- Approval of the request for international status for Commun 621, Current Topics in Applied Communication: "Communication in International Mediation and Peace".
- Approval of the proposal to change requirements of the Course in Chemistry degree program.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the requirements of the communication major.
- Approval of the proposal for change the methods requirement in the history major.
- Approval of the recommendation for L&S HU 101, Great Books Seminar, to meet the seminar requirement.
- Approval of the recommendation for Econ 193, Freshman Seminar: "Economics of Asia" to meet the international requirement.
- Approval of the recommendation for Polish 236, Polish Culture in Its Historical Setting, to meet the international requirement.
- Approval of the recommendation for Portugs 192, Freshman Seminar: "Luso-Brazilian Science Fiction", to meet the international requirement.
- Approval of the proposal to conduct English 101 Pilot Study.
- Approval of the request for international designation for Geog 230, Europe: East and West.
- Approval of the proposal to change the requirements of the digital arts and culture certificate.
- Approval of proposal to change the requirements of the forensic science certificate.
- Approval of the request for international designation for German 115, Seminar in Advanced Topics in Scandinavian Culture.
- Approval of the proposal for an articulation agreement between WTCS Supervisory Management and the UWM Organizational Administration Program.
- Approval of the proposal for an Articulation Agreement between WTCS Supervisory Management and the UWM Communication Department.
- Approval of the proposal to change the requirements of the certificate in ancient Mediterranean studies.
- Approval of the proposal to change the membership of the Advisory Committee for the Ancient Mediterranean Studies Certificate Program.
- Approval of the proposal to change the physical systems track of the geography major.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the anthropology major categories.
- Approval of the proposal to change the curricular area abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies.
- Approval of the request to change the geography major requirements related to the GIS track.
- Proposal to add GPA requirements to the Course in Chemistry degree.
- Proposal of the proposal to add a new track to the Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the requirements of the biochemistry major.
- Approval of the proposal to modify requirements of the certificate in premedical studies.
- GER-HU request for Ethnic Studies 497, Study Abroad: "The Irish Experience", was denied.
- Approval of the proposal to modify the requirements of the Celtic studies certificate.
- Proposal to modify the requirements of the geological science minor.
