  1. Call to Order - The Chair, Kent Redding, called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m. in Holton Hall 241.
  2. It was moved, seconded, and approved to suspend the agenda to accommodate guests.

    VI.A.1.   It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following course:
    Anthro 763   Professionalism in Anthropology (new)
    Paul Brodwin gave a brief description of and answered questions concerning the new course. The motion was approved.
    VI.B.1   It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of the following course:
    Arabic 164   Arabs and Islam in America (new)
    Caroline Seymour-Jorn gave a brief description of and answered questions concerning the new course. The motion was approved. It was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of Arabic 164 GER-HU request. Member discussed whether this course meets the criteria defining cultural diversity. They agreed this course provides a good test case for expanding the definition of cultural diversity. The motion was amended to recommend CD approval in addition the HU distribution credit. The amended motion was approved unanimously.

    It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

      Connie Jo explained that the German program is restructuring the major and minors. She gave a brief description of the new courses, explained the changes in the requirements of the German major and minor, and answered questions by the Committee. Committee members expressed concern that no member of the German faculty was present at the meeting. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the German 331, 333, 334, 451, 460, and the proposals to change the requirements of the German major, minor, and business minor. The motion to return to the order of business was approved.
