  1. Call to Order - The Chair, Sara Hoot, called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. in Holton Hall 241.

    It was moved, seconded, and approved to suspend the agenda to accommodate the guests.

    VI.C.1.   Jim Lubner and Terence Miller gave a brief summary and answered questions concerning the new course Geo Sci 250 Marine Science at Sea: A Hands-On Laboratory (new/GER-NS+). It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of Geo Sci 250.
    VI.C.2. Terence Miller gave a brief summary and answered questions about the request for blanket approval to make 497 Study Abroad available for graduate credit. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the request.
    VI.B.1. Bryan Kennedy gave a brief summary and answered questions concerning a new course, Portuguese 457 Seminar in Brazilian Literature. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of Portugs 457.

    It was moved, seconded, and approved to return to the order of the agenda.

    1. Minutes #10, 2002-2003 AY (May 13, 2003) were approved unanimously.
    2. The Annual Report, 2002-2003 was amended to delete the statement that subcommittee chairs were elected for 2003-2004. With that correction the annual report was approved as amended.

  4. Procedural Matters
    1. Election of Chair Affirmed - The Committee affirmed the election of Sara Hoot as Committee chair. The election was conducted during the summer via email.
    2. Election of Co-Chair - The Committee unanimously elected Madeleine Velguth as co-chair for 2003-2004 academic year.
    3. C. Election of Subcommittee Chairs - Jenny Watson, Christopher De Sousa, and Doug Cherkauer were elected unanimously as subcommittee chairs of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences respectively.
    4. Meeting Schedule - The committee unanimously approved the meeting schedule for Fall 2003-2004.
    5. Review Procedures - Connie reviewed the list of actions that the Committee has agreed to approve under Automatic Consent/Approval

  5. Old Business
    1. Italian 508, Italian Immersion (new), - approved in May; # corrected to 310. Committee members had no objection to the correction of the number of this course.
    2. Math 221, Honors Calculus I (prereq chg) approved in May; brought back to consider additional change (cr). It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the Math 221 CAR.
    3. Review of Degree Requirements - Connie reported that a subcommittee has been appointed to review the degree requirements; the first meeting will be in the near future. She commented that the dean would like to have a report by the end of the fall semester.

      1. Request for Cultural Diversity Designation for Three Courses from Nicolet Area Technical College - Connie Jo gave summarized and answered questions concerning the three courses. It was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously to recommend to the Dean approval of the first and third courses; the second course was denied approval by the committee.
      2. Request for Blanket Approval to Make 497 Study Abroad Available for Graduate Credit - see above
