    1. Election of Chair for 2004-2005 - Kent Redding was elected enthusiastically and unanimously as chair for the 2004-2005 academic year.

      2. Sociol 452 Social Networks in Global Commerce (new)- Madeleine Velguth asked that the instructor be assisted in making grammatical revisions to the syllabus and clarifying the grading. Kent Redding will do so. It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of Sociol 452.
        Wmns St 290     Selected Topics in Women's Studies: (Subtitle) (new) Charles Schuster questioned whether the subject in the syllabus provided was appropriate. After much discussion, it was moved and seconded to recommend to the Dean approval of Wmns 290. The motion was approved with on opposed and one abstention. The instructor will be asked to clarify the ethnic component in the syllabus.
      3. Request to Change the Geography Major Requirements Related to GIS Track - view on the web at: http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/Opc/viewform.cfm?FormID=528 - It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal to change the Geography Major requirements related to GIS Track.
    2. Natural Sciences
      1. CAR Form - It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the following CAR form.
      2. Bio Sci 402   Immunological Techniques (title, cr, desc) - The instructor will be asked to revise the syllabus to remove specific meeting dates.
      3. Proposal to Add GPA Requirements to the Course in Chemistry Degree - view on the web at: http://www.des.uwm.edu/intranet/Opc/printform.cfm?FormID=531 - It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the proposal to add GPA requirements to the Course in Chemistry Degree
    3. Humanities
      1. CAR Form - It was moved, seconded, and approved to recommend to the Dean approval of the following CAR form.
      2. CompLit 135   Cross-Cultural Literary Forms: (Subtitle) (new, GER-HU)
      3. Request for Approval as International Course - request pulled from agenda; the syllabus is being revised.
      4. Hebr St 235   Topics in Hebrew/Jewish Literature, Culture, and Art: "God and Monsters: Mythology in and Behind the Bible" subtitle - syllabus attached.
  8. Discussion
    1. Degree Requirements Proposal - Sara Hoot passed out copies of the rationale for the revised mission statement. Members reviewed the document and agreed to have Sara send it to L&S Faculty to review before the L&S Faculty meeting.

      Members of the Committee discussed the multitude of emails concerning the L&S degree requirements. They discussed the six points of contention (B.S. math requirement, international requirement, language requirement, mission statement, capstone/research requirement, and sport/recreation credits) among faculty members. After much discussion, the Committee assigned Madeleine Velguth, Sara Hoot, Genevieve McBride and Connie Jo the task of sending a rationale for each of the disputed proposals to faculty members. Kent Redding agreed to assist Sara in preparing the B.S. math requirement rationale.

  9. Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
