1. Call to Order - The chair, Michael Gordon, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. in Holton Hall 241.

4. Old Business
1. Implementation of Changes to Declare a Major - The Committee discussed the draft proposal prepared by Michael Gordon. After much discussion, members agreed on the following:
   • the proposal should address requirements for both declaring and completing a major;
   • students who declare their majors within 5 years of first entering a UW System school may follow the requirements for both declaring and completing the major in effect at the time they entered, if these are different from current requirements;
   • students who do not declare a major within five years of entry must follow current requirements for both declaring and completing a major;
   • the policy will be applied to all majors retroactively.
   Tom O'Bryan asked that the rationale include a statement that reasonable accomodations can be made for transfer students. Connie Jo informed the Committee that the web version of the catalog would be updated every 4-6 months; the hard copy will be updated once a year. Members of the Committee agreed that the web version of the catalog should be designated as the official record of major requirements. The Committee voted to accept the principles expressed here. The proposal will be rewritten and a vote formally taken at the next meeting.
