Minutes No. 1
L&S Faculty
Doc. No.
  1. Call to Order - The meeting was called to order by Dean Richard Meadows 3:34 pm
    1. Announcements - Richard announced that he had attended the recent Wisconsin Economic Summit. He left the meetings with a more positive sense of the impact the State's budget crisis will have on the campus. A panel of 13 former budget and public officials have organized themselves to develop a proposal for how the State can get out of its current budget woes. The group's proposal calls for a cut of $25m per year for the entire System. This is not a major cut when it is spread over all campuses. Richard indicated that he felt this less stringent recommendation is due to recognition of the importance of the UW System as a contributor to the health of the State's economy. He said that there definitely will be cuts, but he believes that the University will be protected as much as possible. A brief discussion of this issue followed.
